Structure In nature
myuong ho lee
Myoung Ho Lee photographs solitary trees framed against white canvas backdrops in the middle of natural landscapes
Myoung Ho Lee, a young artist from South Korea, has produced an elaborate series of photographs that pose some unusual questions about representation, reality, art, environment and seeing. Simple in concept, complex in execution, he makes us look at a tree and its structure in its natural surroundings, but separates the tree artificially from nature by presenting it on an immense white ground, as one would see a painting or photograph on a billboard.

I like the way contrast in colour is used , majority of the picture is white this helps highlight all the features of the tree.

There's a looming idea of openness that makes the picture achieve a ominous theme.

i like the way sunset is presented its almost as if there's and artificial sunset created.

1st Response
Using Ho Lee work as inspiration i have taken a white piece of card out into the natural environment and look for interesting structures in nature that i can photograph against the white background. This isolates the subject and helps show the different textures, shapes and forms of nature.
WWW. I like how i've isolated nature successfully while capturing different subjects of what could be found in a normal woods. It's surprising to see what differences in nature can be found so close to each other.
EBI. I could improve my photos easily by considering different camera techniques such as apature and depth of field it's something i've blown over slightly, i could also improve my photos by looking for more colour.

2nd response
Using what i've learnt from my first response i have created a new series of photos where i still isolate the natural subject, i went out looking for more colour and to experiment with some basic camera techniques.
WWW & EBI
The first two images show water , i Like the still life look however it seams there should a fluid movement in the photos . These are contrasted by the different leaves on a white background , there is a different texture in broader leaf than with the needled leafs however both picture show the use of a low aperture. I would of liked to have the reflection in the water to be crisp and in focus this would make a illusions look , i would achieve this by using a high aperture. I would also like to experiment with different angles and focusing points of the leaves.
Technical Focus
aperture is a hole within a lens, through which light travels into the camera body. It is easier to understand the concept if you just think about our eyes. Every camera that we know of today is designed like human eyes. The cornea in our eyes is like the front element of a lens – it gathers all external light, then bends it and passes it to the iris. Depending on the amount of light, the iris can either expand or shrink, controlling the size of the pupil, which is a hole that lets the light pass further into the eye. The pupil is essentially what we refer to as aperture in photography.

Sanna kannisto
Sanna kannisto works with natural sciences this is to collect in order to inspect more closely. Collecting everything from nectar sucking bats to rare mushrooms she uses photography to aid scientific documentation, which typically presents specimens in isolation and devoid of context. Kannisto’s work addresses the acts of staging and image-making. Her photographs show the breathtaking beauty of nature in front of the velvety black drapes at each side, the difficult neutral lighting rig and the seamless white background.
3rd Response
WWW. i've successfully used SANNA KANNISTO work as inspiration and created my response to her work, i like how the subject is suspended. This adds another level and perspective on things meaning she offers another way to look at things.
EBI. i would improve this a lot by finding some more variety in nature to use in the stands.

Structure In ARCHITECTURE
I shot this by using a direct light towards the camera this leaves a large contrast between dark and light leaving the highlighted areas with a reflective look and the dark areas filled with dark shadows. This photo used no post production elements instead i've left the photo to realism, i also made sure i was at chair level to adapt the composition to the architecture. I also selected an area that showed the structure of the chairs and how there positioned relatively to the room and lights.
WWW. I really like the symmetrical look of the chairs and how they have reacted to the light. I like how there is a clear foreground and background.
EBI. I would like to work more with post production and use photoshop to creatively subtract the yellow light in the background as i think it separates the photo from the main focus.

The main focus of this piece, the vibrant flower, is captured with a low apature resulting in a perfectly in focus flower contrasted with a blurred background of the organs in the church. The man made organs show human structure they are shown in straight lines next to each other repetitively, this is contrasted again by the random natural structure given by the way the flower has grown.

Brutalisum
The term Brutalism was derived from the French ‘Béton brut’ for raw concrete. Now being used for the futurist architecture created by Le Corbusier and others like him. The expression became associated with a movement emerging in postwar British architectural offices. The architecture itself is characterised by the large size of the buildings and the use of raw unfinished concrete. Brutalist buildings also make use of geometric forms in a way to attempt to communicate the buildings function and what the rooms behind the slabs of concrete are used for.

Simon Phipps
The photography by Simon Phipps provides a unique perspective and portrays Brutalist architecture in a sensitive, realistic and distinctive manner. Phipps has spent the last 15 years photographing and documenting Brutalist and buildings in the UK, creating a survey of photographic images that demonstrate the breadth of this contentious architectural style.
I find his series of Brutalisum prints inspirational as they show something different to other photographers, he successfully captures the interesting features on the buildings while showing off there scale and might. His photos often show technical focuses like perspective , negative space and form and shape. These help portray the visual perspective he captures within the frame and highlights how the buildings are seen day to day , taking this as inspiration i have included his techniques into my photos. I have gone to Brutalisum hotspots like the institute of education and the Brunswick Centre and imitated Phipps work.

Negative Space
WWW. I like how i've capture the contrasting landscape the open space behind the buildings shows them to be larger and more impressive, the lack of other focus creates a more interesting view of the building.
EBI. i would of liked to capture a more landscape view however the buildings i've captures don't have the same perspective as for example the Barbican Estate.

Form and shape
WWW. i like how i've captured the variety of form and shape it shows how these buildings are not just what you see o the outside.
EBI. I would like to take a closer look into how the building is fitted together and the capture more outside shots of raw concrete.

Perspective
EBI. because of the large buildings neighbouring the sites it was hard to capture the perspective of the buildings, i could improve this by looking for more suitable brutalisum buildings.

EVALUATION Overall i've successfully captured the impressive scale and features of the Brunswick centre and the Institute of Education, i broke down my images and have learnt a lot about the content of a photo while also setting myself new goals when photographing architecture. I've also succeeded at multiple photogenic techniques while experiment with the different feature of a camera, this works well with the variety of focuses i've shown. However i would of liked to improve my photos in post production to further imply the idea of structure within my photos, i can do this by the use of colour and the cropped sections. The next step is to develop my work to create a more arty abstract piece. Ive done research into different artists to conclude my brutalisum work. |
Thomas Danthony
The Brutalism project is a collaboration with Black Dragon press about Brutalism architecture in London. He turns photographs that he has taken in to simplified images in Photoshop and then in turns creates screen prints of his creations.
I like how his use of large empty black spaces contrasts the simplistic brutalist architecture with colour and simplicity. The 5 colour pallet used allows him to keep the simplicity while also being able to creatively show light and depth within the photo, this planning is important because it gives the photo a solid formula to build off. There is a use of light and how it reacts within the content this helps recreate realism in the photo, the light is shown as a simplified sun or moon always shown in the top left, i like this because it helps break up the solid black that would have been too overwhelming with out it.

My RESPONSE
Method
Firstly i took my photos and put them into photoshop, then using the lasso tool i was able to select certain areas of the picture; i made sure that i was simplifying the picture in this stage. Now an area is selected i can use an artistic blur to simplify all the colours in the selected area , this is an average blur. I had to be careful that i didn't affect the colour by accidently including more vibrant colours, this can easily be fixed by putting the image into a grayscale before editing.

WWW: I really like the content of the photos i used there also very different showing how i could use this technique again on more sophisticated photos with different levels of detail however this technique works best on simple photos like architecture.I like my corridor shot it shows more depth and i like the lack of negative space. EVOL
German street artist EVOL transforms banal urban surfaces into miniature lifelike buildings. He is like an urban planner, but unlike the others, he creates a city within the city. The artist uses complicated stencils and photographs to quickly transform powerboxes, and other worn urban surfaces into miniature apartment buildings or other structures. By drawing tiny balconies and satellite dishes onto the side of an electrical box, he is able to turn it into a realistic tiny skyscraper.

My RESPONSE
I created a miniature abstract building out of cardboard and other common materials, i used pastels to create graffiti on it much like how EVOL does on his pieces, however i have also painted shadows and collaged on it as well.
I then took it out and photographed it in a different range of environments and textures.
Evaluation
WWW: I like how my building looks against the colours and the texture of the streets, its more abstract look helps it stand out more and small area of blue shows variety. I also like the different angles i have taken of the building.
EBI: i think i could of been more experimental with where i put the building this would compliment the detailed parts of the building well while also helping it blend into the scenery.

Structure OF the human body
The body is made up of multiple layers and has an amazingly complex structure many artists have investigated the different parts and layers that make up this unique structure.
I achieved these images by the use of addition and subtraction of layers in photoshop, using the erase tool i was able to precisely remove small sections of the face to reveal the skull layer underneath. As you can see from the step page i have included it shows each step of creation of the images. |
WWW. I really like how i have succeeded at making a dramatic feel within the photo, i achieved this by saturating the colour and also during the photoshoot stage directing my models to the right angles and postures.
EBi. There are a few selection areas where i could of smoothed out more with the eraser tool they are visible if you look hard enough a way i could eradicate this would be to put another layer of the models face behind the skull and infront and erase some of the skull as well.

Strand 1
STRUCTURE IN Texture
The structure of texture could be a good strand to follow as there is a lot i can look into, here are some textures i found in nature however i could find textures in the city even relating it to decay and the textures included there.
Strand 2
STRUCTURE in water
This would be a good strand as there are some interesting concepts i could use such as gifs and reflections these could evolve into interesting photos and ideas i have gone to some local sources and photographed some different ideas, an issue with this strand could be the trouble of finding a good locations for photographing water.
FINAL STRAND
STRUCTURE OF MOVEMENT
This strand is my most complex idea because it has a main focus for me to achieve being able to capture or freeze movement is a really interesting concept that many artists have looked into that i can use for inspiration. I'm more creatively inspired by this strand because of its complexity there's a lot of different ways to approach movement from a photographers perspective, it will also be easier to express my intentions in my images.
1st Development
First experimenting with long exposure and post production techniques
The first area i wanted to look into was to capture movement instead of freezing it, i like this idea more because it results in a less generic photo. You can do this in multiple ways i decided to achieve this by using a long exposure and intensifying it later in post production with photoshop. Next time i should consider the work of a photographer to inspire a more accurate depiction of what i want to achieve.
Thrown Chairs :
Running:
I've achieved this look by
the use of a long exposure and a steady hand. Keeping my camera still while taking the photo captures the movement of the surroundings. This can be amplified by the speed of the object, a longer exposure and a longer aperture.
WWW: I like how the movement is captured in a single shot picture , i am impressed by the running effect it achieves what i was aiming for while also showing a clearer background.
EBI: I would like to explore more landscapes and interesting content within the picture while keeping the same techniques.

2nd development
Experimenting with long exposure and a strobe light
Evolving my work in my 2nd development i decided to experiment with a strobe light while keeping the long exposure idea from my 1st development. My intentions were to create a series of photos that showed the different stages of movement, i hoped the strobe light would help me achieve this.
This photoshoot was mainly experimental, It also allowed me to replicate some of Alexei Titerenko work. These images show movement in a path or a stream of overlaid photos taken with a long exposure and a strobe light. This technique uses a dark area in this case i used the dark room we had accessible firstly i set up the strobe light behind the camera and then experimented with the speed of the flashes compared to the shutter speed. In this photo you can see when each flash takes place a new image is captured and shows as a semi translucent frame in the picture this leaves the structure of the movement i've selected, you can see in the picture below where each flash was.
WWW: i like how in photoshop i have enhanced the visibility of the movement by using vibrancy, i also like how i have captured the movement and its structure over a period of time
EBI: i would of liked to do this in a darker area this would help the technique and give me a more solid frames like in the one below. |
These were taken with a long exposure and before the whole photo had been taken dogging out of the scene resulted in a faded capture of when we were there i put the camera on a timer and a tripod for these.
Heres some photos i took at a later date however they still show the same effect i was aiming for you can clearly see each frame of movement.
3rd DEVELOPMENT
Experimenting with light and how long exposure reacts to it
These photos were taken using a long exposure and a large amount of light this combination resulted to a blur of colour and reflected light. These images show how light has a large effect on how movement is shown in a photo, as seen above i have tested with different levels of light and how they affect the exposure. This helped me understand how i can adapt the environments light to change how movement reacts to in the photo.
This image was produced when i moved the camera in a twisting motion while the photo was being taken, this resulted in a still frame when i started taking the photo and then a moving blur to the left of the photo that shows not only the movement of the person but the camera as well.
|
These images were created when i was experimenting with the zoom in and out function of the camera while the photo was being taken with the long shutter speed, It has resulted in a new concept where there is almost two photos overlayed. The closer you look the more of the model you see at different viewpoints.
|
WWW. I really like the technical focus of these photos i have succeeded at showing movement with in a still frame photo these techniques will be used in my later photos. My images do show my intentions that were to use Alexei Titerenko's work as inspiration and to test out new ideas with light and how exposure reacts to it.
EBI. I would like to further look into the use of zooming in with a long exposure its something that i only looked into slightly when achieving these photos. I could improve my photos more by reducing the intensity of the light in a few photos i could also achieve this in camera raw, this would require me to change the settings of my camera to take it in raw these files are larger however it would meen i can manipulate the photo more in post production like being able to change exposure. |
ALEXEY TITARENKO
Alexey Titarenko was born in Leningrad in 1962. At age 15, he became the youngest member of the independent photo club Zerkalo (Mirror). He graduated from the Department of Cinematic and Photographic Art at Leningrad’s Institute of Culture in 1983. His series of collages and photomontages Nomenklatura of Signs (first exhibited in 1988 in Leningrad) is a commentary on the Communist regime as an oppressive system that converts citizens into mere signs. In 1989, Nomenklatura of Signs was included in Photostroyka, a major show of new Soviet photography that toured the US.
I like his work and find it inspirational for my subject strand, he manages to capture movement in a similar way to what i'm aiming for, using a longer exposure to capture movements stages insteads of using a freezing moving technique like flash blur. He uses a combination of this technique while looking for dramatic scenery to add to the depth and overall photo. I have taken inspiration from his photos and included his techniques into mine.
4th Development
Experimenting more with camera zoom
In this development i was aiming to experiment and see how different techniques can be used, i used camera zoom which is when there's a long exposure and you zoom in wards manually with the camera this creates a blurred effect where everything is moving away from the camera in a almost moving style, normally the middle of the photo stays unblurred this is what inspired me to create these photos as the effect works well at making still life look as if it's moving so taking my technique to a stationary car i made them look like there moving fast and are in motion.
WWW: I like the illusionary idea that i can make a stationary car seem as if its moving its an interesting idea where there isn't much movement in the photo shoot however the final result looks as if there is a lot of forward movement.
EBI: I would like to experiment with a lot of different cars or i could change from a zoom in idea to a zoom out and see if that has a different effect on the picture.
EBI: I would like to experiment with a lot of different cars or i could change from a zoom in idea to a zoom out and see if that has a different effect on the picture.
5th development
Abstract light
These first 4 photos were taken with a long exposure and very little camera movement, this resulted in light being captured as if it were a solid entity in the photo. For example the first photo shows this where the tail lights of the car are captured in the photo this technique i discovered later evolved.
These next series of photos were captured with an evolved technique where i used a lot of camera movement and camera zoom in and out while there was a long exposure the subject was street lights. I have successfully found a situational technique to show movement by using light and camera techniques from previous developments.
Using a combination of all of my developments i was able to choose a main subject that expelled light, then i used a long exposure, camera movement and zooming techniques to produce a new developed set of photos.
WWW. I really like the abstract look of these images there is a really good sense of depth that is shows as thicker and brighter lines, i like the wiry texture of the light this was mainly created from a continuous zoom in and out of the camera.
EBI. There isn't really a main focus of these types of photos there isn't a main subject there more an abstract piece and technical showcases.
EBI. There isn't really a main focus of these types of photos there isn't a main subject there more an abstract piece and technical showcases.
I like this photo because it shows the same techniques as the top photos however to the left of the photo there's a clearer subject of the road i like this addition because it gives the illusion that the light is a solid entity sitting in the road, this is a lot like MICHAEL BOSANKO work.
This photo shows the zoom in and out technique perfectly the street lights that were 80ft away seems to be right up by the camera because of the light given of by the lamp posts therefor you can see the complete movement of the camera. Each time there is an overlap in the light or a beginning of a yellow glow that was where the camera was zoomed in or when the camera was moved in its wave like structure.
Michael Bosanko
Light painting photographer Michael Bosanko has been capturing light since 2004. He discovered light painting on accident, Michael says this of his moment of discovery, “the moon formed part of the scene, but the camera shake caused the moon to make a streak. My curious mind clipped the camera from the tripod and, hand held, I attempted to “write” my partner’s name using nothing but the moonshine and the movement of the camera in my hand, and I had success. As soon as I returned home, I adopted the same principles but with torches, and I’ve been hooked ever since.” Ever since that moment Michael has had great success with light painting photography, he has created images for several commercial clients and been published in numerous magazines.
|
I find MICHAEL BOSANKO work interesting because it's the same abstract light and movement however he has manages to include a main subject and purpose of photo to the photo this is something i can learn from his work and put more subjects into my work without changing what i have succeeded with. Before creating my abstract light photos i used Michael Bosankos work heavily as inspiration.
6th Development
abstract light And adding new subjects
In this task i set myself the goal to explore different shutter speeds and how they effect the structure of movement however while doing so i also found that directly holding the camera instead of it being on a tripod allowed me to move it. I used long exposure to capture the movement of the car and the light and i used i the moving the camera while the picture was being taken to produce a more abstract view that increases the idea of movement, these effects create an illusion that the figure is turning. The faded background light was also caused from camera movement i personally like this effect because it shows that there doesn't have to be a point of focus in the whole picture it adds a different texture and another element to the photo. You can see by the light in the background that the camera was moved to the left, this is shown clearly in the example i've highlighted below.
WWW: I Managed the exposure very well. My shutter speed was controlled well so that the figure is still visible to the facial features and so movement is captured in multiple ways. EBI: The concept wasn’t clear in this image, I need to make it more explicit by showing more movement except from camera movement which can be unreliable because the lack of tripod. |
These images are caught using a tripod and a long exposure, it took a while to find a exposure that successfully managed to catch the figure mid movement however using a trial and error process i successfully resulted in the photos i was aiming to achieve. I prioritized shutter speed this meant i didn't really focus on the composition of the photo meaning most from this collection has to be cropped or had to have more done to improve the composition later on in post production.
WWW. I really like how i can capture a moving person in another way that isn't freezing the movement, these photos look alive and as if there is movement taking place within the photo. These photos also have more character in them as you can see all the different stages of the figure moving.
EBI. I wasn't as successful with the abstract light element of the piece, i could improve this by instead of trying to create abstract light i could look into light trails much like the car when the tail lights are captured within the photo attaching lights to the figure as they move could create a interesting combination of the two focuses.

DEVELOPMENT 7
How Long exposure Effects a figure
The purpose of these photos were to show an improvement of the last range of photos i shot with long exposure and a figure, however much like my 1st development i would try to make the figure seem semi invisible by the uses of long exposure and no camera movement this was different that when i wanted the movement to show clearly in my last first range of photos.
These images show how the camera zoom in and out technique looks when the camera is just held still and there is no camera movement when taking the photo, I like how the main focus(the figure) is centred and in almost normal focus however the surroundings and blurred giving a illusion that the camera or the subject is moving towards or away from each other.
WWW. I achieved what i went out and looked for i created a new series of photos that has improved on the last ones however while still keeping the same technical focuses.
EBI. i would like to do this where there are more cars so there would be light trails in the background.
EBI. i would like to do this where there are more cars so there would be light trails in the background.
Development 8
ABSTRACT LIGHT MOVEMENT WITH CAMERA MOVEMENT
In this task i was required to show how a long exposure has a effect on light and how it shows in a photo. The subject i chose to photograph was a london bus and cars this is because they leave interesting light trails when they move showing the movement as a path like the one above this means i was not required to move the camera instead i just had to shoot it with a steady hand. Using inspiration from what i had achieved in past development i have included hand movements of the camera like zooming in and out while the camera is being taken or twisting the camera while the photo is being taken this results in a unnatural result of abstract light that normally retains the focus.
This photo is to show how a large amount of camera movement can result in a abstract piece where the focus isn't visible however when you look carefully the red, orange and green in the top left is a traffic light and the larger amount of light in a oncoming car. The camera movement is shown as a 8 like shape this shows its path as the light in the photo.
I like this photo because the focus of the bus has stayed present while the movement is still shown, you can see this at the 134 number that has changed its space in the photo to another when i move my hand.
This photo shows a car from behind this is a difference to when i was photographing ongoing traffic because the brighter headlights show whats in front of it and the camera picks it up differently, i like this experimental change because it shows me managing change.
|
I like the minimalism look of this photo its a zoomed in perspective of another photo and i've isolated it to show a yin and yang style look.
I like this butterfly look of the photo there is a clear sense of light coming from the centre line of the photo creating a mirror look within the photo, i like this effect because it creates a point of focus within the abstractness.
|
The subject i chose to photography suited the theme this is because a london bus has many lights on the side and the back that react well with a long exposure. I made a small wave like movement with my hand when i was taking the photo resulting in a wave like texture in the light where the bus was moveing. I like the absence of light in the left portion of the image it adds a difference in texture and visual complexity making the photo have a alternative motive.
These images show how when there is an absence of light the objects expelling light appear to not visible in the dark, these lights are traffic lights and the abstract feel to the photos are because of the camera movement techniques ive developed.
This is a cropped image i have taken from a larger image i took of a streat of cars, in the top left you can see a flashing lights which is this image. I dislike this photo because of the low quality and pixelated form.
These next images are some that i don't like as much as the above pictures because of composition reasons and a lack of the same dramatic abstract feel.
Perfecting a technique
I like this photo as a whole it shows exactly what i was aiming for. There's the element of darkness in the background that isolates the light trails of the bus, there's also a perfected style of the waved lines from previous photos this was caused from the camera movement, then theres a black absence of light section of the photo which increases the impact that the light trails have on the photos style. I also like the variety of lines from the light there's thicker ones and stop ones that are caused from a flashing light i liked this element before in whole strat format however capturing a mixture of lights shows that there was a bus and a strat light in the photo this shows a good composition compared to other ones above.
|
In post production i've created a mirrored reflection of my bus photo, i like this idea because the format and the interesting shapes these compliment the dramatic fluorescent light trails and make them seem more involved and purposeful while still keeping the long exposure trails, this shows movement because the techniques used capture movement and then the final product shows movement in a wave like format where the reflection line was when the photo was taken and then the camera was turned so the outward arms of the shape shows a path of what was moving captured in light it was given off.
Development 9
TAKING TECHNIQUES to a ENVIRONMENT where they THRIVE
Taking a step back from the more abstract look of the photos i decided to capture movement with similar techniques however to keep the photos environment in tackt i achieved this by using a considerable higher shutter speed so that the environment shows in the photo. I am aiming to achieve a photo where the exposure turns the cars into a symmetrical row of light trails this will only take place where there's a constant stream of cars like a motorway the cars that are moving shouldn't turn up in the photo however the rear lights should and the multiple cars passing the photos capture area means they should cause a line of all the cars that passed.
I selected a stream of traffic here to see what effect i could achieve it wouldn't be what i was aiming for however it does show the light trails and it shows everything captured in frame instead of darkness, i like this photo because movement is captured in the background and the foreground giveing a nice effect mainly from the red light trails are only in the background and then the larger close up light trails are in the front. Movement is also captured where you can see the can and the car at the front appear to be semi translucent this is because they were moving when the photo was taken.
I like this photo however not as much as the first one it shows when traffic started showing more movement hence the larger amount of light and the larger light trail in the front section of the photo, i also like the blurred vehicles and complex light trails in the background.
I like the composition of this photo, its of a interchange road that cuts onto the main motorway and the effect of light trails and how they separate into these two roads. I also like how the other street lights look when captured with a long exposure they show as larger light sources almost highlighting the motorway.
I like the craziness of this photo in the sense of so many overlapping light trails and a large amount of light variety there's a split in the traffic of oncoming traffic and passing traffic this creates a nice change of movement being shown in the photo and what light trails appear where on the photo.
I like how i used the bridge to break up the light trails of the road this adds variety of texture and visual composition.
WWW; I like how my photos turned out i achieved what i was aiming for while innovating and adapting my photos to the environment i was in while still keeping my techniques and methods stable. I like how the light trails turned out they all ended up showing different varieties of how they showed up like thin black lines and then thick white glows.
EBI: I could improve my photos more in post production maybe by using a reflection technique in the road and the light trails.

Making improvement and INNOVATing in photoshop
Taking the raw photos from my light trails of a motorway i went into post production, photoshop, and updated them while taking into account my even better ifs and improvements that i could make. One improvement was when flipping the image to have a symmetrical line down the middle, an idea i had when developing my london bus captures.
Evaluation
I really like the style of these photos they show what i was aiming for while still including technical focuses and the overarching idea of movement, i like how i developed them from there raw format to a more stylish format that includes my idea for having a line of reflection that shows the paths of movement.

Experimenting with long exposure while in a moving car
While traveling across south africa i captured interesting scenes on the way that show movement in multiple ways the long exposure shows the people and anything that was moving as its burred stages of movement. Me being in a car and shooting from a window i came into a few problems like mastering what shutter speed was the best or at what angle to shoot at to achieve the impressive background to fall into place while still having the movement techniques showed though, eventually i managed to achieve this and i managed to capture South Africa in a more vast and inclusive style where i was using techniques and themes that i created.
I like the moody effect given by the clouded skyline, as you can see to the right the people that are moveing appear to show as blurred moving representations of themselfs.
WWW; I have achieved a lot from this set of photos, i went along with all of my past developments and included / considered them in all of the photos i took, i really like the dramatic style of these photos this is caused from the impressive scenery, the mountains and townships, and by the large change of what we are used to seeing. I like this strength of impact some of the photos i took really show ethical viewpoints about society and bring into the light another lifestyle from the southern hemisphere.
EBI: I would like to go further into my ideas about movement by stepping out of the car and experiencing that new environment to a different level on foot, i would like to capture more ideas about movement as well and create other ways for me to show it.

Using long exposure to produce a sense of movement within a forest
I aimed to create a blurred image of what was in front of the lense, i choses a forest and kept the idea of shooting out of a moving vehicle. I didn't shoot with an intentional subject instead i wanted to show a more abstract version of what you see in the forest while still showing the sense of movement and what direction the camera was moving.
I like these set of photos ( the 3 above ) because the photo isn't just one blur of green theres colour variety, shadows and the tree trunks are great additions that break up the photo and add texture contrast.
WWW. I like the style i've used instead of looking for a focus and then taking the picture these photos turned out to be more abstract where there isn't really a main subject in the photos. I like this approach it shows that i am capable of thinking outside the box while still retaining the basics that i developed for example the camera techniques.
EBI. I would of liked to test this idea with a more variety of environments for example; in a city, in a savanna landscape or even in a smaller enclosed area like indoors.

Using Capturing movement techniques to produce photos from interesting SUBJECTS
Using the same techniques where i'm in a vehicle shooting while its moving i've developed the idea to include a subject to see what result the photos will have, i choses a zebra as there stripes and color variety will have a positive effect on the overall landscape of the photo.
I like this photo it shows a large amount of movement and includes a interesting subject without overpowering the photo. The zebra was standing still however i've achieved an interesting effect where it seems there is a large amount of movement caught up in the photo.
I don't like how this effect shows the zebra and the environment, i thought i may as well experiment with the different effects i've developed to show movement in a photo however these photos have shown me that not all the effects and techniques work with all situations, the camera zoom doesn't work in this situation because the subjects is still and i'm in a stopped vehicle therefore it turned out that its obvious that i'm trying to imitate movement instead of involving it.

Experimenting with capturing waters movement
I wanted to find a physical thing where there would be a lot of movement in a small area i decided to chooses water because there is a constant stream of movement that i could capture in various ways, i decided to keep a steady hand to show the beautiful surroundings and location i was in while still showing movement by having a long exposure that would hopefully show the continuous movement of the water in my given location.
You can see how movement has been captured with the long exposure especially in the left photo, because of the stream of similar angles of the waterfall the water appears in lines in the photo. I like the right photo especially this is because there is an interesting light flare that adds depth to the photo and another interesting angle i also like how the light is reflected and shown on the top section of the waterfall.
I like the close up element of this photo it really highlights the way a stream of movement in water can be shown I liek the end of this part of the stream it shows a crazy collision of water.
I really like the dramatic effect this photo has however there's a delicate balance between long exposure and daylight which has resulted in a surrealistic light area on the top half of the photo i tried to use photoshop to help with this issue however the long exposure has caught too much light so there's very little texture in that section f the photo, its a shame because i really like this photos dramatic style.
